The Triopticas are the first and most abundant of the two dominant species on Gemeralda, sharing the planet with the Carcajaws. Intelligent and peaceful, this bird-like species is named after the three eyes atop their heads. This third eye is kept open during sleep, as it has no eyelids, to watch for any dangers. Some members of the Trioptica are said to be able to sense approaching danger, but this is merely Trioptican folklore. Although peaceful herbivores, Triopticas are well armed for any dangers that they might come across. Not only do they have strong claws, but the spines on their tail tip can ooze a venomous fluid. The saddle-like shell on their backs aid in defense to keep predators from attacking the spine. These precautions, however, are not used often. Triopticas would rather run away with their strong legs and flying abilities. During the tribal stage of their evolution, the Triopticas were able to domesticate the ferret-hose-like species called the Ploxy. Some Triopticas have grown strong spiritual bonds with their Ploxy parters, able to understand what the other is saying. ________
